Macross Frontier

So far this has been a great start to what looks to be a promising Anime. If it keeps up this pace and quality it could very well outshine all of the Macross titles before it.

Yes, they waited long enough to make another Macross official anime after M7.

They also seem to have taken a LOT of lessons from Gundam and a few other shows, while retaining the priorities Macross kept (character development and relationships as primary as number one, then the fighting) which are actually inverse from where Gundam went with Double Zero, with the focus being more on the situation and the fighting with character development coming behind it.

The sixth episode was sort of the climax so far (they were gearing up from #1 for that one) and I really hope it's a 26 or 51 episode anime as well.

It'll be fun to see if both actually succeed at what they're doing going in opposite paths, and obviously, judging which one does a better job.

They both had time to prepare. No excuses.

Wow, 7 was sufficiently beyond badass. Even the ending song was a straight up evolution of the Macross Plus theme.

This is probably the best Macross entry to date. Hands down.

And your right, that whole episode rocked. the action was simply beautiful.

*Nods*

Episode 7 was series-finale epic...

I wonder how much it costs to produce each episode. I recall Seed costing an insane amount for each ep.

This one undoubtedly costs more.

The production level of the songs alone must be astronomical. The animation dips quite a bit into the three dimensional which at 1080p isn't cheap.

It would stand to reason it's even more expensive than 00.

You know I think that ep 7 is quite possibly my favorite episode in a give anime period. Music driven action scenes are ALWAYS good times.. well unless its bad music.

Episode 8 seemed like a huge let down in comparison.

I'm just listening and looking at the soundtrack and am noticing every other song is a full length feature song live and stage versions.

The production value regarding the music alone must be astronomical.

[edit]Dayum, Aimo full version is in it as well.

Almost all of them are fantastic. Whenever it's not a feature by Nakajima (Ranka) or May'n (Sheryl), it's Yoko Kanno's masterpiece of epicness.

I kinda had her pegged on being the controller of the purple mech from a couple episodes ago. I wonder if she's a martyr though, or if she has herself cloned (suspect the latter, but you never know with insane people).

And yes, that was freaking awesome :)

Did you notice that the cockpit of the purple mech was all a hologram?

I really like the redone version of Amino as well. Yoko Kanno has really outdone herself on this Anime. This is probably going to be my favorite from her.

Btw I love the little homage to Roy Fokker. :) And speaking of homages, the fact that they still use Fire Bomber music is just plain awesome. Every Macross series thus far has been referenced heavily. :)

Definitely. I get all nostalgic whenever they pay homage to a series. It's nice how the Fire Bomber music fit the mood/scene despite being kinda old :D

That reminds me of Galaxy Quest - the comedic relief always dies :thumb:

This has turned out to be a very interesting series. It will more than likely be at the top of my favorites list. I actually have gone back and rewatched all the episodes to date and it is much better the second time around.
