So, I played a bit of this this weekend, maybe an hour all told. Some of hte voice acting is wretched, but I have heard worse, and the story so far is interesting and novel, I like the alternate re-tellings of well known stories.

The GFX are solid, more bright colours than I expected, and the combat, apart from the occasional (and typical) 3rd person camera issues, takes a bit to get used to, but then really feels like it flows. Decent action combat, not too dissimilar in feel (but very dissimilar in controls) from Mass Effect.

Anywho, I will probably try and finish it, its interesting enough, but supposedly short, so its probably worth a rental. I think it has the story (sadly not the acting) to carry me through it.

Hmmm, I will have to look into this I think. If the story is good I can look past most other issues - indeed the main reason I haven't looked at the game much yet is because the reviews I read said the story was generally sub-par.

Thanks for the thoughts :)

It may be sub-par, but I am entertained.

One of my best friends seems really enthralled with TH, but I couldn't get past some of the technical issues of the game, mainly the way combat works. All the other issues I could get past, but man that combat can be wonkey. Especially with how you use the right analog stick. It's very counter intuitive to how a game of that type should work. It doesn't feel at all natural. Though that could be because I am used to FPS's and how they work and I am trying to shoe horn that aspect into TH.. I dunno. I am gonna give it a serious playthrough soon. Maybe we can partner up and give it a whirl.

Well I have to say, TH has kept me entertained. Since my cousin wasn't playing his copy, I borrowed it to check the game out and see how it feels. My initial gripes are still all there, but amidst all that, there is a certain level of addiction that is pushing me on to play further. It's bothersome that such a subpar game has enticed me so, but it is what it is. I am enjoying myself to say the least. I have a level 37 Commando and I am tearin it up. I already beat the game once and I am about to complete my second play through. Go fig..

Effectively this is exactly how I feel about The Last Remnant. Combat outside of boss battles is poor, and the story is barely above par at the start (though it gets better).

But there is something addictive about the game, helped by the fact that they got the whole 'MMO world' feel perfect, with there being more to do outside of the main storyline than I think I've seen in any RPG to date. It's keeping me playing, when by all rights I should have thrown it out long ago.

Strange how some games can do this to us. Interesting to see it rear its head in other games too.

It's like being a heroin user who kicked the habit and had a relapse. You hate yourself for even thinking about it in the first place, and you wanna puke for actually doing it.

Yeah that sums it up.

Just wrapped it up, short game, 12 hours or so total play time. It has a crap load of problems, but the conceit and story are pretty interesting. It could have been a great game. I am not even sure its "good" with all the issues it has, but I enjoyed playing through it, a cool way to "create" a new story.

Anywho, I suggest playing it if you can find it cheap. It is not worth 60 bucks with all its issues.
